This project marked the fourth in a series of loft refurbishments at a converted warehouse in Clerkenwell, focusing on lighting and acoustics to create a functional yet beautifully refined space for two musician clients.
In a setting defined by its raw, industrial character, our goal was to embrace the warehouse aesthetic while introducing a sense of polish. Exposed services were streamlined and refined, blending seamlessly with bespoke acoustic treatments throughout the apartment. The result is a space that balances practicality with craftsmanship, perfectly suited to the clients’ needs.
Lighting played a key role in the redesign, offering maximum flexibility to adapt to the ever-changing demands of an open-plan environment. Bespoke suspended cable trays replaced cluttered surface-fixed services, future-proofing the space for additional functionality. These trays appear to float within the space, with hidden connections at the dropped concrete beams. Up-lit concrete coffers further enhance the design, highlighting the building’s structural details and celebrating its industrial heritage.
“We’re extremely satisfied with our flat refurbishment, as conducted by Resident and the contractor AKC. The outcome exceeded our expectations in a number of ways, both in terms of the engineering involved and the care and attention to the final look and finish. We’d thoroughly recommend Resident to anybody considering major works.”
