The Hop Exchange

Revitalising the iconic Hop Exchange with a rooftop extension and modern office spaces while preserving its historic character at the heart of Borough Market.

The Hop Exchange project breathes new life into a landmark Grade II listed building in the heart of Borough Market and London Bridge. Our aim is to create modern, flexible office spaces by adding two new storeys and seamlessly integrating them with the existing building.

In addition to expanding the building’s usable space, this project offers an exciting opportunity to enhance the historical significance of the Hop Exchange. The front façade, with its striking architectural details, will be restored, and the outdated 1950s atrium roof will be replaced with a design that better respects the building’s heritage.

Our design fills the rear light well, adding extra floors while maximising natural light through the installation of a new atrium roof. This connection between existing and new spaces will result in high-quality, open-plan floors filled with light, ideal for modern office use.

We’re also introducing a new secondary entrance from Borough Market through to Park Street. This will provide a unique public route through the building’s impressive atrium space, reconnecting the area with the market and offering accessible, DDA-compliant entry. In addition, ground-floor restaurant spaces will further enhance the vibrancy of the area.

Resident has secured planning permission and listed building consent, and we are now finalising the Stage 4 technical design. With construction phases set to begin soon, The Hop Exchange is well on its way to becoming a cutting-edge office and hospitality destination, without losing touch with its historical roots.
